In simple terms, decluttering is about getting rid of what you don’t need, to make space for the things you do. So where does all the clutter come from?
Over time we accumulate things. Lots of things. Too many things. We buy, we receive, we buy again. We fill up our spaces with clutter, stuffing things in here and there. On the surface all appears calm, but underneath it all – somewhere, there’s a storm brewing or one that’s already erupted.
The reality is, with such busy lives there’s just not enough time in the day to do it all – So we don’t. We become overwhelmed, shut the door defeated, and put it off to yet another day. Though we may forget about it for a while, like the proverbial bad penny, when we open that door again, it’s there staring us right in the face, in all it’s glory.
Yet flip the coin the other way, and you’ll find there are people who some how manage to thrive in organised chaos. Quite happy knowing their watch is somewhere under the four piles of socks, papers, books and various knick-knacks on the coffee table. The rest of us however find it really difficult to relax, both physically and mentally. Even if the clutter is hidden away, our subconscious manages to remind us, ” Hey, don’t forget to sort it out!”
You don’t need to live in a show house, but your home is your castle, and should be a place where you can relax, feel comfortable and unwind after a long day. Where you can enjoy quality time with the family, focus on projects, or enjoy some much deserved “me” time. A messy, cluttered or unorganised home can really affect your mood, leaving you feeling anxious, stressed or even annoyed.
If your clutter has got the better of you, then a professional declutter service could be just what you need. With my help and encouragement, you’ll be able to tackle the clutter, make more space for the things you love and need, and take back control of your home.
If you’re ready to get decluttering but not sure where to start, pick the room or space that you most want sorted. The living room or the kitchen for example is a central hub of coming and goings. Any decluttering here will have a huge impact. Once decluttered, it will motivate you to do the rest of the home because you’ll be so pleased with the results!
Rather than diving in and pulling everything out at once, the ideal is to start small. Otherwise, they’ll be a mountain of mess to wade through that’s worse than when you started! A drawer, shelf or the bottom of a cupboard is a good place to begin.
If you choose to use my declutter service, we will go through the clutter together, one object at a time, allocating a sorting category for each item as we go. It will be up to you to decide what you will keep, donate, store or throw away. Decluttering does take time, but it’s definitely worth the investment. How long will depend on how much clutter there is, and how decisive you are!
